Govetts Leap
The dramatic legend of Govetts Leap tells of an escaped convict - turned bushranger named Govett who, pursed by troppers, found himself trapped on the edge of a 300 metre cliff.
Preferring death to capture, he wheeled his horse around and together they leapt over the edge.
The real story - in fact, the name comes from the colonial assistant Surveyor, William Govett, who discovered it in 1831.
